No, the customer isn’t always right
This is exactly why this phrase is absolute bs
Here’s an unpopular opinion : compromise is the enemy of fulfillment.
Being able to compromise is seen as a sign of maturity, as a way (sometimes the ONLY way) to a long lasting relationship. Who hasn’t heard the phrase ‘mariage is all about compromise ?’ I certainly heard it more times than I can remember.
Compromise also shows up in all its righteous glory in business in the popular phrase ‘The customer is King’. i.e. your clients’ needs are more important than yours, so push your petty opinions and needs aside, suck it up and do what they want already.
This is not only horrendous advice, but it’s effectively robbing you of the chance to create a stellar business in a way that gets more effortless with time.
Here’s how :
The very definition of compromise involves sacrifice. Compromise requires of you that you give up something that’s important to you in order for, say, a client to sign up to your services. You’ve accepted that a bad deal is better than no deal.
Behind your compromises lie your fears, your addiction to safety, your inability to express your needs. When you’re compromising, you’re fuelling those fears, so compromise is not motivated by what you WANT, it’s motivated…
